Australia is the biggest island and smallest continent in the world. It is also the driest inhabited continent, with most of the population concentrated on the coastal fringe towards the South of the country. The centre of Australia is a harsh, arid, environment which can go for long periods without rain. Having said that it also has some of the most pristine environments, unusual natural features and amazing scenery. It has a rich, if short, history of european settlement including success and failures, as well as a long unwritten history of settlement by the original inhabitants.
Australia is made up of a number of states and territories. These include Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia, The Northern Territory and the Australian capital Territory (More commonly referred to simply as the ACT), as well as a number of islands. We cover these area's.

Queensland could simply be split into South East Queensland, known as The Great South East in tourism circles, and 'the rest'. South East Queensland contains the greatest population density in the state. The state's capital, Brisbane, is the hub of the South East. The area has numerous tourism mecca's and attractions. These include the Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise through to cafe central at Noosa. The coastal part of this area is well developed. The hinterland still has large area's of primary production.
The Barrier Reef extends from North of Cairns, and the play area of the rich and famous at Port Douglas, South to the City of Bundaberg. The largest city in Queensland, outside the South East is Townsville, situated beside the Coral Sea (Great Barrier Reef). This is also the site of one of the rounds of V8 Touring Car racing in Australia. V8 touring car racing is an exciting international event - the first round for 2010 was held in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).
To give some perspective to the distances in Queensland it approximately 1900kms from Coolangatta, at the South end of the Gold coast, to Port Douglas along the East Coast, and well over 24hrs driving time. The coastline is dotted with many great beach's, islands, tourist destinations and resorts.
New South Wales Lies on the East Coast of Australia to the South Of Queensland, and again has many great beaches and holiday destinations. New South Wales is the original state from which other states were separated, to form the Commonwealth of Australia. The population of New South Wales is concentrated on the Capital, Sydney. Sydney includes such icons of Australia as the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and 'The Rocks'. These are used as the backdrops to many Australian films.
The area around Sydney includes opportunities such as trips to the Blue Mountains, harbour cruises and the Hunter Valley wineries. There are many beaches such as the famous Bondi Beach, both North and South of Sydney. There are is also a opportunity to enjoy scenic travel on a road trip from Sydney to Melbourne (Victoria) and then go on to the Great Ocean Road ( a scenic highway run along the coast including cliff edges and historic sites) to Adelaide.
